Inc., and disposable protective fabric for the isolation gowns from Greensboro-based Precision Fabrics Group, Inc.

The YKK plant in Lawrenceburg has answered the call to help battle the coronavirus pandemic. The plant, which produces an array of buttons, snaps, hooks and other items, announced last week it is working to develop critically needed items for medical providers. “We reached out to the medical community,” said Lawrenceburg plant manager Aza Shumate.

On November 28th, YKK sponsored their first toy drive at the Walmart parking lot to help kids in need, and this morning, they officially donated all the toys they received to Open Hands Pantry.

Atlanta, Dec 4, 2015 – The Consulate General of Japan celebrates the Emperor of Japan’s birthday at the residence of Consulate General of Japan in Buckhead. Over 200 distinguished guests including Congressman Tom Price, Georgia’s Attorney General Sam Olens, business leaders, community leaders and mayors of several major cities in metropolitan Atlanta attended the ceremony.

Earlier this month, the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection honored six recipients for their 2015 Environmental Excellence Awards, and YKK in Lawrenceburg was one of them, winning the environmental pacesetter award. Originally known as Universal Fasteners and located just off of Industrial Road, we sat down with Greg Pass, HR & Safety Director, and Todd Baldwin, Environmental Engineer, at YKK to see what they did to win the award.

Through this awards program, the department recognized the efforts and activities of individuals, businesses or organizations that are committed to protecting and improving Kentucky’s environment.

smithsonian.com Take a look at a zipper on any given pair of pants and chances are it’s inscribed with the letters “YKK,” an acronym stamped on some 7 billion zippers a year. Every one of them is manufactured by a single Japanese company behind what might be one of the most ubiquitous brands in history.

It has done so through the auspices of YKK, the world’s largest manufacturer of zippers, which produces roughly half the world’s supply-some 7 billion a year. Yet to understand how Kurobe became the zipper capital of the world, one must travel back to the very birth of the zipper, to a time when the zipper wasn’t even the zipper at all.

The brand of zipper that is likely keeping your britches up at this very moment. Headquartered in Tokyo, 81-year-old YKK (short for Yoshida Kogyo Kabu­shikikaisha, which translates as ­Yoshida OK彩票 Limited) was founded by Tadao ­Yoshida, who started making cus­tom zippers to take advantage of breaks and alignment flaws in other products of the time.

The zipper is one of those inventions-along with the bicycle-that seems as though it should have occurred much earlier in history. How complicated could it be to assemble two wheels, two pedals, and a chain? Or to align two jagged strips of metal teeth and shuffle them together?

Margaret Mimbs was 26 years old when she began working at the YKK zipper plant in Macon. It was less than a month after the company and the community celebrated the grand opening of the $15 million manufacturer Oct. 18, 1974. It was Mimbs’ first full-time job.

YKK AP America Inc. will expand its residential window plant in Macon, Ga., thanks to growing demand related to the recovering U.S. housing market. YKK AP will relocate its production lines into a larger building on its Macon campus and add two new production lines dedicated to vinyl window and multi-layered glass production.
